Domain Name Council

Policy-making by the Austrian Internet Community

The Austrian Domain Name Council has the task of advising the board of directors of the Internet Foundation and the management of nic.at GmbH, the responsible registry, in matters of domain administration for domains under .at.

The Domain Advisory Board was founded on July 24, 2001 in a constituent meeting. It brings together experts from the Internet industry, various authorities and ministries, Internet law and Internet users, thus enabling a regular exchange of interests. For the first time in Austria, there is a committee made up of various representatives of the Internet community and actively helping to shape the development of the domain administration.

The subjects dealt with in the Domain Name Council are just as diverse as the qualifications and functions of the individual members. They range from legal issues such as domain disputes, Whois  and the contractual relationships between registries and ICANN to technical issues such as name server security and operational issues such as a code of practice for registrars.
